Congratulations to Tammy and Davey Ruiz on their newborn baby girl. Kalaya Celyn Ruiz arrived on January 24, 2010 at 8:13pm after 21 hours of labor. She was 7 lbs 7 ounces with some nice dark hair just like her dad’s!
You may be a momma now but you are still my favorite ‘Red Aunt’. Lots of love to your family.

One of our favorite illustrators, Edan Curtis, has put together a beautiful website where women can grow, connect and share our unique experiences. Check it out! www.vowtobe.com
It’s almost been a year since the official release of our first children’s book The Quiet Lion: A Quest for his Lost Voice. We are still finding our footing as a small independent book publishing company but want to thank EVERYONE who’s supported us along the way. We love those emails telling us how much you and your family love the story. Keep ‘em coming!! xoxo
In 1969, November was declared National Epilepsy Awareness Month so here I am to promote Epilepsy Awareness!! www.talkaboutit.org
I am an avid supporter of the Epilepsy Foundation in honor of my nephew Jake who has suffered with the condition his entire life. He is one whose seizures are not controlled by medication or any other treatment at this point. David Axelrod, Obama’s senior advisor whose daughter also has epilepsy, decribed it accurately as “terrorism of the brain”. There is always fear of when the next seizure will come and what the aftermath will be.
What is shocking to me is how little awareness there is about the condition. For example, the same number of people die every year from seizures as from breast cancer…yet breast cancer gets FIVE times the funding.
I’m not trying to take money from breast cancer research! I just want Epilepsy research to have a fighting chance too. It’s selfish. I want my Jake to be safe and live as normal a life as possible.
So Red Ant Publishing will be donating $5 to the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County for every copy of The Quiet Lion purchased this month. I’d say it’s good timing…give to the community AND get a signed copy to give as a gift for Christmas! Or be unique and give a book for Thanksgiving LOL
Thanks for listening.
Gina
PS LOVE YOU JAKE
