Celia shows her Certificate of Congressional Recognition

Celia shows her Certificate of Congressional Recognition

The First Anual ACSD Young Writer’s Conference was held last Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Ross Elementary from 3:30 to 6:30.  Writing and illustrations from students in the district were on display and several stories were chosen by The Imagination Station to be acted out in front of the audience.  We have also selected three stories from the event to be posted on our Kidz Korner page so check them out.

A representative from Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s office attended the event as well and presented our very own author Celia Navejas with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for her achievements.  She’s overcome a writing disability to become a published author at age 11, inspired a Writer’s and Illustrator’s club at her former Elementary school, donated several copies of her book to support a Community Clean Up Day in Santa Ana, and has a scholarship fund created in her name to which Red Ant will donate $100 for every 500 books sold.  The funds will go toward library supplies at Benjamin Franklin Elementary.

Literacy Event in Chino Hills

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I’m really excited because at the 4th Annual Festival of Books I was invited to participate in a literacy event happening this Tuesday, March 2 at a school in Chino Hills.  Short notice but I will get to read The Quiet Lion to more people.  Yay!  I’m getting better at doing the voices of the characters and I always love the questions from the students afterwards.  Doesn’t hurt that they treat me like a famous person either!!  Thank you Dawn.  I’m looking forward to getting all the details!
